Jon Shield and Mel Sykes Deliver Significant Victories in the Montane Summer Spine Challenger South
Jon Shield is the winner of the Montane Summer Spine Challenger South. Finishing in a time of 27 hours 53 seconds, he put significant distance between him and his closest competitor. Jon had to dig deep into his reserves for this race and we congratulate him on a gritty win. First woman and 4th overall was Mel Sykes. She finished with an almighty lead over her closest rival after an extremely tenacious performance throughout a difficult night and day. She’s shown great resilience in this race and, at every stage, great humor.
Nathan Drinkwater and Martin Thompson complete the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively. All three podium placers moved at outstanding pace during the day but had to face into a sudden change in the weather in the most exposed area of the course.
Congratulations to our winners – the Challenger South demonstrating again how brutal this race can be.
